Dec 97 to Present:  Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

July 03 to Present: Director, Center for Public Policy Research

·        Seek external funding (grants and contracts) to expand the Joint Commission’s public policy research focus.

·        Principal Investigator for a study through the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center at the University of California at San Francisco (National Program Office for Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). Study designed to assess hospital practices associated with high/low smoking cessation counseling performance measure rates.

·        Management of a four-year Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) grant - Partners for Quality, Measuring Performance and Bioterrorism Preparedness: An Impact Study on the impact of national health care performance measurement.

Dec 01 to July 03:  Project Director

·        Coordinated the multi-hospital, multi-state pilot testing of the Joint Commission’s nationally standardized hospital performance (core) measures.

·        Managed the a 2-year contract from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to analyze Joint Commission ORYX data on mental health and substance abuse services in hospital and community settings and the assessment of the feasibility of developing a core set of behavioral health performance measures.

·        International consultation on testing and implementation of healthcare performance measures.

Mar 98 to Dec 01:  Associate Project Director

·        Managed the Joint Commission’s measurement system audit process.

·        Coordinated the development of a database to receive and process performance measure data from healthcare organizations.

Dec 97 to Mar 98:  Performance Measurement Analyst

·        Prepared material and provided education for healthcare organizations related to the Joint Commission’s performance measurement requirements and the ORYX initiative.
